Project Overview

This Victorian terrace house had a large but unused attic space filled with dust and old boxes. With a growing family, the homeowners needed an extra bedroom and a dedicated workspace but didn’t want to move. A loft conversion was the perfect solution to unlock the potential of their existing property.

Structural Engineering

The project involved a rear dormer extension to maximize headroom and floor space. We reinforced the floor joists and installed steel beams to support the new structure without compromising the rooms below. A new custom-built staircase was installed above the existing stairs, designed to look like it had always been part of the house.

Design Details

• Master Suite: The main area serves as a spacious master bedroom with built-in wardrobes into the eaves.
• En-suite Bathroom: A compact but luxurious wet room with a skylight, maximizing natural light and ventilation.
• Home Office Nook: A dedicated corner with a custom desk and shelving, taking advantage of the natural light from the Velux windows.
• Insulation: High-performance rigid insulation boards were used to ensure the space remains warm in winter and cool in summer.

Final Thoughts

The transformation is remarkable. What was once a dark, dusty storage area is now the brightest and most peaceful room in the house. The addition of the en-suite has relieved pressure on the family bathroom, and the new office space has revolutionized the client’s work-from-home experience.
